SSIX IS NOW OFFICIALLY LISTED ON PEERINGDB

The Sicilia & Sardegna Internet eXchange joins the leading global database for network interconnection

SIPORTAL announces that SSIX (Sicilia & Sardegna Internet Exchange) has been added to PeeringDB, the international registry of Internet Exchanges. With this listing, SSIX is now included in the primary global reference database for network operators, marking a significant milestone for the development of digital infrastructure in the Mediterranean region.

SSIX is the Internet Exchange Point (IXP) located in Olbia at the Gallura Data Center. It was created with the strategic objective of improving regional interconnection, reducing latency, and optimizing the performance of networks operating in Sardinia, Sicily, and more broadly across the Mediterranean area.

Thanks to its geographic position, SSIX aims to become a natural reference point for ISPs, companies, and public administrations in Sicily and Sardinia, enabling them to exchange Internet traffic locally and providing an efficient alternative to traditional traffic routes that pass through the main hubs of continental Europe.

What it means to be on PeeringDB

PeeringDB is the global reference platform for the Internet community, used by thousands of network operators worldwide to publish information about their exchange points, networks, and peering infrastructure. Being listed on PeeringDB is considered a fundamental requirement for the visibility and credibility of an Internet Exchange Point at an international level, as it allows network operators around the world to identify the exchange, evaluate its technical characteristics, and initiate peering relationships.

“The presence of SSIX on PeeringDB,” comments Fabio Emanuele, CTO of SIPORTAL, represents a fundamental step for the development of the interconnection ecosystem in the Mediterranean.
It allows network operators worldwide to identify SSIX as a potential peering point, consult its technical information, and easily establish new interconnection sessions.”

This milestone was made possible thanks to the contribution and commitment of Alessio Pisasale, Head of Network, who promoted and coordinated the implementation activities related to the development and deployment of the SSIX infrastructure.
We are now visible and reachable by the entire international community of global network operators and ready to welcome new peering partnerships.”

Registration on PeeringDB concretely opens the door to new interconnection opportunities for operators active in the Mediterranean and beyond. SSIX welcomes ISPs, carriers, CDNs, cloud providers, and enterprise networks interested in establishing direct peering sessions, benefiting from reduced latency, improved network performance, and greater infrastructure resilience.

Operators can now consult the SSIX profile on PeeringDB to view technical information, connection requirements, and the procedures for joining the exchange.
